How does it work?On your first pick-up, we'll provide you with one of our 5 gallon buckets. Depending on how much food waste you generate, you can select which frequency of pick-up you prefer. Most four family households will generate a bucket every two weeks. On your designated pick-up day you'll leave your bucket at your designated location (you'll let us know where to pick it up, whether the end of your driveway, garage, or by your front door) and we'll leave you a clean bucket! We're trying to take the mess out of composting. Get in touch if you have any questions!

What can we compost?Anything you eat, if it comes from something you eat, and uncoated cardboard + paper products. Previously, bones, meat and dairy were not allowed, but now, if it comes from something you can eat, we can pick it up! If you have any doubts about paper products, it's better to toss it in the trash. - Fats and oils - Meat and bones - Fish and seafood, including shells - Fruits and vegetables (remove stickers!) - Eggs and egg shells - Milk, cheese, & all other dairy products - Bread, pasta and grains - Coffee grounds and tea leaves - Condiments (ketchup, mustard etc.) - Soups and sauces - Uncoated paper & cardboard - Uncoated paper plates - Paper napkins - Paper towels that have not been used with chemical products - Uncoated paper bags - Coffee filters - Paper tea bags (make sure you take out the staples!) At this time, we are not picking up other bio-waste such as grass clippings and yard waste. We will schedule a day for all our members to haul away other bio-waste in the fall and spring. Stay tuned! If you'd like to purchase liners, we suggest using these: 100% Compostable Trash Bags, 6-8 Gallon, 30L, 100 Count

Does it smell? The bucket we provide you with has a lid so it shouldn't! If you find your bucket getting too stinky, you may want to consider adding a pick-up, but there are a few things you can do. - Add sawdust to mitigate smell. Cedar shavings are also nice since they are aromatic. - Keep it somewhere cool and out of the sun. - Keep a smaller bucket in the kitchen, and when that gets full add it to the 5 gallon bucket. - Keep a small container in the freezer! This keeps everything smell free in the kitchen. - Add coffee grounds and tea bags. This keeps it smelling a little less pungent. If you'd like to purchase liners, we suggest using these: 100% Compostable Trash Bags, 6-8 Gallon, 30L, 100 Count

I would like to switch over to your pick-up - will you pick up my existing compost?Sure thing. When you sign up and we do our first bucket drop-off we're happy to take your existing compost for free if it is under 5 gallons. Anything over 5 gallons is $1/gallon - a typically backyard composter is anywhere between 30-50 gallons.
